Attitude Surveys

  • Although most courses focus on the concepts, facts or skills you learn, we are also concerned about how you feel about the subject matter you've been learning.
  • We are also interested in your subjective rating of your level of competence in the areas you are learning about.
  • Thus, at the beginning, middle and end of the semester, we will administer a short survey that will allow you to rate how much you like and how competent you believe you are in several areas.
  • We will not examine the results until after we have assigned grades, so your answers can be completely honest.
  • Since there are no right or wrong answers to the survey, you will get credit for filling it out.

Personality Survey

  • One of the goals of the course is to enhance the ability of students to work together effectively in teams.
  • How does one's personality affect one's learning style and one's ability to function in teams?
  • To explore this question, we will be administering a short personality survey on introversion/extroversion near the beginning of the semester.
  • The results will be kept confidential, and we will not share them with anyone in a way that can personally identify you.
  • We will use them to see if they provide any useful predictions for how well or poorly different teams function during the semester.
  • We will give you credit for taking the time to fill out the survey.

Learning and Teamwork Surveys

  • At the end of each unit, you will be given a post-unit quiz, and will thus have immediate feedback on how well you learned the material in that unit.
  • Immediately after the post-unit quiz, we will administer a survey that will allow you to reflect on how you learned the material, how well this worked for you, and how you might want to alter how you study and learn.
  • Because this is directly relevant, the survey will ask you about how well your team is functioning, and ask you to share comments with your teammate and the instructors on what is working well, and what could be improved.
  • We will give you credit for taking the time to fill out the survey.

Absence Policy

  • If you were absent for class, and did not provide appropriate certification to allow us to excuse your absence (see Attendance), you must still take the surveys, but will get no credit for it.
