Attendance in class, participating in discussions, and a willingness to help teammates understand material will all serve as a basis for the class participation grade.

Please come on time and stay through the entire class.

Tardiness or leaving early may be penalized.

Absence Policy

Participation is a critical aspect of learning in the course, so attendance in class is an important component of assessment.

Absences will only be excused based on appropriate documentation. Acceptable examples of such documentation include

  • a doctor's note certifying that you were ill,
  • a note from the Dean of Undergraduate Studies explaining that you needed to miss classes because of a death in the family,
  • a note from a coach that you must attend an athletic event,
  • a note from a professional school indicating that you must attend an interview (e.g., for graduate school or medical school), or
  • a note from a conference indicating that you must give a presentation there (e.g., present a poster or a paper).

All other absences will be recorded as unexcused absences, and you will earn 0 points for participation that day.

Students must take full responsibility for catching up with any work missed during their absence, and for coordinating with their teammate to ensure that the team's progress is not impeded by their absence. This may include arranging a time to meet with the instructors to check off benchmarks.

Tardiness Policy

Arriving to the classroom before the start of class is very important in this course. Please do not be late. We take tardiness very seriously. Each time you arrive to class late, you will receive an email reminding you of this policy. After the third tardy, attendance points will be deducted each time you are late to class.
