Sniffing

Summary of what is available on Wikipedia:

Sniffing is a perceptually-relevant behavior, defined as the active sampling of odors for the purpose of information acquisition. This behavior, displayed by all terrestrial vertebrates, is typically identified based upon changes in respiratory frequency and/or amplitude, and is often studied in the context of odor guided behaviors. Surprisingly, there is currently no page for “sniffing” on Wikipedia. There is a link for the topic of sniffing on Wikipedia, however this routes you to a page on inhalation which is a non-sensory specific behavior normally regulated simply for the purpose of respiration. Due to this, I propose to create a Wiki page on “sniffing” to fill the major void for information. The page will be relevant to people interested in general animal behavior, neuroethology, neuroscience, perceptual processes, and especially the chemical senses.
